How did you hear about WeCloudData?

I came to know about WeCloudData through the previous cohort students (Batch 8). Some of my friends also studied in that batch and they have always told great things about the instructors and the course.

What made you decide to choose WeCloudData’s Data Science program over other companies? Was there something that stood out to you about our program that solidified your decision?

I was really impressed by reading all the reviews on switchup and google. The main thing that attracted me more towards the program was the internship (real-client projects) as it provides the opportunity to work with some amazing companies.

What was your career background before enrolling in our Data Science program?

I was working as a supply chain professional in the logistics industry for almost 3 years.

What made you want to pursue a career in Data Science?

One of my friends took the course and after completion of the course, they got a really good job as an analyst. They were from a different background (not in data), so I decided to also take up the course. Also, most of the companies are growing towards data, so I wanted my career direction to grow towards that as well.

Can you tell us a bit more about yourself and your journey to where you are today?

I did my bachelor’s in commerce from India and then I came to Canada 7 years ago as a student. I completed my business administration and Supply Chain & Logistics PG Diplomas from Toronto. After that, I was successful in getting my first job as a logistics coordinator in a printing logistics company. I worked there for 1 year and after that, I got an amazing opportunity with SCI Logistics as a Transportation Co-Ordinator where I got to learn a lot more about supply chain and customer retention. After that during the COVID pandemic, I decided to grow my career towards the data side and then I decided to do the data science program from WeCloud Data. Within 3 months of the program completion, I found a job as a Data Analyst.

What did you find most enjoyable or interesting about the Data Science program at WeCloudData while being a student? Was there any aspect of our course curriculum or teaching style that stood out to you?

The most interesting thing I found was that the exercises given to solve after class greatly helped me in understanding the concepts and gave me more confidence for the next class. The teaching style was really great in terms of how SQL or Python programming was explained as I had no background before on that.

How did the Instructors and Teaching Assistants (TA’s) support you during the program? Did you find their knowledge and expertise helpful?

Yes, the TAs and Instructors were really supportive during the program as each and every time whenever I had a doubt, they would not hesitate to help me out anytime. The concepts were pretty new to me so I used to ask for their help and they would gladly help me anytime.

Based on your previous education experience, how did online classes compare to learning in-person?

I feel that online classes were good but an in-person session would have been better as we would be interacting more with the instructors and our fellow classmates often and that would have been better in the learning process. However given the pandemic situation it is totally understandable.

Do you have any tips for current students on how to be successful in online classes?

Sure, definitely try to engage more with the instructors and the TAs. Also, try to resolve any doubts immediately which will help you in the long run.

How do you feel the real client projects helped you when it came time to find a job?

The real client projects gave me exposure to the practical side of SQL and python. Previously, I was only applying it in terms of the classroom aspect but for the real world, these projects were really helpful and gave me a proper insight of what needed to be done end to end.

How long did it take you to find a job after graduating from WeCloudData?

It took me almost 3 months to find a job after graduating.

Finding a job during the pandemic has been a challenge for most, what aspects of your resume and portfolio do you believe helped you secure a job so quickly?

Definitely, mentioning my real client projects helped me a lot during interviews and my resume stood out because of that only. I believe that I was able to talk better and with more confidence due to the client projects. Without that, I don’t think I’d be able to secure as many interview calls.

Can you give us some insight into what the Data Science interview process is like?

I had an interview for a data analyst position: First was the HR round in which they asked behavioral questions and then was a small technical test that included SQL and Python questions. After that, there was a main round with the hiring manager which lasted for 1 hour. The final round was with the head of the department. Then the HR called for negotiation and a background check. After that, the final offer was provided.

What sort of impact do you feel your Data Science diploma from WeCloudData made on potential employers?

I feel that while talking about my projects I was more confident. They were also impressed with the work that I had done in the project and wanted to know more about it.

Do you have any words of advice for current or future students planning on pursuing a career in Data Science?

Definitely, go for the course as it has given so many students a lot of potential and success in this field.

How has your life changed since you graduated from WeCloudData and got a job in the industry?

It has definitely been wonderful now and just waiting to start my new job. I’m excited for it!
